When you supercharge your engine, you are compressing the air that is entering the engine. The more boost you run, the hotter the intake charge gets, and the closer the engine comes to the threshold of engine destroying DETONATION . When you add a Superchiller® to your engine, the intake charge is cooled down, thereby reducing the chance of harmful DETONATION. Also, the reduced operating temperature will result in longer life for the internal components of your engine.
Increased Horsepower
You can get substantial horsepower gains when you cool the intake charge. The cooler the intake charge, the more air you put in the cylinders and the more horsepower the engine will make. The gains to be realized depend on a few variables. The temperature of the coolant that is running through the Superchiller® is one. The second variable is the amount of boost that you are running. The average marine application shows that at 9 lbs. of boost there is around a 100 HP Increase. We have had reports from customers of a little more and some a little less. Because of the increased performance gains, the overall results can also be affected by changes in carburetor jetting, timing and other tune-up parameters.
Ease of Installation
The Superchiller® installs between the intake manifold and the supercharger the kit comes with all the necessary mounting studs and nuts, as well as gaskets. The addition of the Superchiller® means that the supercharger will be 4 higher on most applications. Therefore, it will also require a longer drive belt. We have had custom sized belts made to order for virtually every combination. When you place your order, we can determine which belt you will require.
